Naples is located in a more or less central position in the gulf of the same name, in between the Mount Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei volcanic area, in one of the most enchanting sceneries in the world. The city has a huge artistic and architectural heritage, which has been protected by UNESCO for many years.
Naples, which is among the largest and populated Italian and Mediterranean cities, still preserves its historical vocation as an internationally important cultural, scientific and University centre. In the city you will find Villa Rosebery, one of the three official residences o the President of the Republic.

Naples has numerous defensive castles for the protection of the city: among these only six have remained structurally intact, five of which are concentrated in the historical centre; they are the following: Maschio Angioino, Castel Capuano, Castel Sant’Elmo, Castel dell’Ovo and the Caserma Garibaldi.
Naples has two real royal residences, even though other villas and palaces used to be the homes of its sovereigns (like the previously mentioned Villa Rosebery): the Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace), which overlooks Piazza Plebiscito and has the typical forms of European palaces, and the Reggia di Capodimonte (Capodimonte Palace), which is now a famous art gallery.
