Discover Italy's Amalfi Coast

Here are our suggestions for the most memorable sights, landscapes, and countryside to explore!

The Antico Casale farm holiday is perched on the hills between the Sorrentine Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast.
There are a number of excellent day trips and scenic trails easy to explore from here. Traffic isn't particularly heavy in this area, unlike other spots along the coast, which makes it easy to reach the most famous destinations and the trailheads to some of the loveliest hikes.

Hiking

If you love walking and hiking, the farm holiday is the perfect base for exploring a number of trails along the Sorrentine Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast.

Mount Vico Alvano and Mount Comune

Just across from the farm, guests can pick up the trail for a route toward “l’alta via dei Monti Lattari”, which was once the only path connecting the towns along the Amalfi Coast and was used by local herders, farmers, and merchants. From the castle at “Parco del Principe”, hikers can reach the peak of Mount Vico Alvano, which sits between the Bay of Naples and the Bay of Salerno. From there, you can continue along Mount Comune to Santa Maria a Castello, a tiny village overlooking Positano where you can rest before heading back.

These trail are much less famous and less crowded than the Path of the Gods, but have the same breathtaking views without all the hikers that often clog the Sentiero degli Dei on the weekends.

Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods)

The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) is one of the most famous hiking trails in the world, and gets its name from the spectacular views along the route.
The trailhead is just 15 minutes by car from Antico Casale, in the village of Nocelle outside Positano. The trail runs to Bomerano, near Agerola.

We suggest taking the bus to Amalfi, and from there transferring to the route to Agerola so you are walking towards Nocelle with the best views in front of you. Once you arrive in Nocelle, you can reach Positano by taking a flight of about 1,000 steps down the cliffside, and from there you can catch a bus back to Antico Casale.

You can also explore the interesting trail to Vettica Maggiore (near Praiano), which features the churches of San Domenico and Santa Maria a Castro (built in 1100) along the route.

It takes about 3 hours and you need to wear appropriate shoes and bring ample water, especially in summer. Be sure to take your camera, so you can capture the gorgeous views.

Valle Delle Ferriere

The Valle delle Ferriere winds down the mountain slope behind Amalfi along the path of a river, passing a number of historic mills that were once used to make paper.

From Antico Casale, you can catch the bus to Amalfi where you connect to the route to Pontone. From here, the trail runs downhill through the Nature Reserve, and takes about three hours to complete the route though wild ferns and abandoned paper mills. The path ends right behind the center of Amalfi, so you can visit the sights, including the majestic Duomo di Sant’Andrea, before catching the bus back to Antico Casale.

Punta Campanella

The Punta Campanella trail leads to the furthest point on the Sorrentine Peninsula, beginning from the hamlet of Termini, and is an easy hike over level countryside with stunning views. From Antico Casale, you can drive to Termini along the panoramic and quiet Via Nastro Azzurro. From here, you can also opt for the more challenging route that first climbs the peak of Mount San Costanzo until coming back down at Punta Campanella. You can also choose the path that goes to the Bay of Jeranto, where you can swim in the water with a view of the Faraglioni.
